GAY Rights Surface As Lebanon Prepares for Election

Ameen Rhayem could face up to a year in jail if he is charged with violating Lebanon’s Article 534 “simply for loving another man.”  The activist makes that point in a video produced by Beirut-based sexual-rights group the Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality (AFE) in advance of the country’s elections on Sunday, the first vote in nine years. 


Lebanon: Party Ministers Walk out of Meeting Over Environmental Issues

Kataeb Party chief MP Sami Gemayel hinted Thursday that his party’s ministers might resign or suspend their participation in cabinet sessions should their presence in the government cease to “serve the interest of the Lebanese.” Gemayel voiced his remarks shortly after Kataeb’s ministers walked out of a cabinet session in protest at the government’s handling of the waste management file.
