Coronavirus: Morocco to evacuate nationals from Wuhan area

On 27 January 2020, King Mohammed VI of Morocco ordered the repatriation of 100 Moroccan nationals, mostly students, from the Wuhan area of China, which is at the centre of an outbreak of coronavirus.

Although no cases of coronavirus have been registered in Morocco, the King ordered measures to prevent the spread of the disease to be taken at Moroccan airports and ports and hospitals.

On 25 January 2020, Morocco’s Ministry of Health issued a press release stating that no cases of coronavirus have been detected in the country.

On 27 January 2020, a Chinese tourist underwent various medical tests at the Mohammed V hospital in Chefchaouen amid fears that she had caught the Coronavirus.

The epidemic, which originated in Wuhan city, has claimed 81 lives in China so far and infected more than 2,800 people globally, including Germany, the US, France and Egypt.
