Syria – Pro-Assad Forces Kill Civilians in Strike on Hospital in Idlib

On 21 March 2021, forces loyal to the Syrian government carried out artillery strikes targeting a hospital in the town of Al-Atareb in Idlib Governorate, northern Syria. The strike led to civilian deaths, including a child, and several injuries.

Local sources told MPC Journal Arabic that “Assad’s gangs” bombed Al-Atareb Hospital in the countryside of Idlib. Five individuals were seriously wounded and transferred to Turkey for immediate treatment, while the dead were handed over to their families.

On the same day, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that about 15 people were killed and wounded by shelling, allegedly by “forces supported by the Syrian government,” targeting a hospital in Idlib, northern Syria.

According to a statement by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, “Assad’s forces launched a brutal attack on Syrian civilians. Five were killed, including a child, and ten were wounded in an artillery attack launched by Assad-backed forces on a hospital in Al-Atareb in Idlib, northern Syria.

The Syrian Civil Defense confirmed the strike on the hospital via Facebook, saying that  in addition tot he five dead, 15 more individuals were wounded in the attack, including medical personnel working at the hospital. The Civil Defense added that “the Assad forces targeted the hospital with several artillery shells, which led to human damage to the hospital staff, material damage and now the hospital has gone out of service.”
