The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed four cases of the new deadly coronavirus.
On 29 January 2020, the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Community Protection said it had diagnosed the coronavirus in a four-member Chinese family. The infected patients had travelled from the 11-million Wuhan city, China, where the new virus has killed 132 people and infected more than 6,000.
The ministry added in its statement that “the situation was contained by following the most necessary precautionary measures adopted globally when dealing with infected cases.”
Although the ministry did not specify where in the UAE the cases had appeared, it stressed that the diagnosis is “not a cause for concern”.
Officially known as 2019-nCoV, the coronavirus was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019.
